Rajma tikki a nutritious and healthy low calorie recipe

“Rajma tikki” is in our menu today!  Rajma or Kidney beans is variety of legume which is highly nutritious. Kidney beans are packed with carbs, fiber and great source of proteins. It also contains Omega 3 and Omega 6. It also a good number minerals such as Copper, Iron, Phosporous, Potassium.

Nutritious and very healthy low calorie Rajma tikki/patty

Rajma chawal” is the famous punjabi dish in India – white long grain Basmati rice with Rajma curry .But here we are going to make a healthy, nutritious and tasty snack recipe “Rajma tikki” or “Rajma patty”. In rainy days its a perfect evening time recipe and also great for kids lunch box. Very simple and easy to make with very less oil usage. Mostly potatoes are used in making tikki, but here we are not going to add potatoes to this recipe just to avoid extra carbs from them.

You can just have patty or Rajma tikki with sauce or you can use it in burger adding some slices of tomatoes, onion, lettuce, and mayo. Or you can make some yummy wraps with it, adding some red chilly sauce on patty and wrapping it up in a chapati. You can add some more cooked veggies of your choice and like in the patty like carrots, beetroots etc.




  • Rajma 1 cup soaked overnight
  • Onion 1 finely chopped
  • Curry leaves 3-4
  • Green chilly 2
  • Jeera 1 tsp.
  • Red chilly powder 1 tsp.
  • Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp.
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp.
  • Salt to taste (1tsp.)
  • Corn flour 1-2 tbsp. for binding the patty
  • Corriander leaves for garnishing
  • oil 2 tsp.
  • Bread crumbs 1 tbsp. for crunchiness
  • Lemon juice 1 tsp.(optional)


Soak the rajma overnight, or at least 8 hours. And then pressure cook them till they are smooth and completely cooked. It is very important to cook the Rajma completely.

Remove the excess water and transfer them to mixer jar. And grind them till they are mashed properly. Now transfer the contents into a big bowl for mixing with other ingredients.

In a separate pan heat the tbsp oil and add jeera,curry leaves and onion to oil. Fry them till the onion are golden in color.



Now add this shallow fried onions and leaves to the bowl of Rajma.

Also add the remaining ingredients- salt, red chilly powder, Garam masala powder (optional, add it if you like it spicy) , ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder in it.

Mix all the ingredients well till them form a thick smooth mixture. You can squeeze half lemon to this mixture, its completely optional, depending on your likes, just to give a little sourness.

Add 2 tbsp of corn flour to the mixture, this is required for binding the mixture, since we are not using potatoes, as potatoes give a nice binding to the mixture, we will use this.

Now apply little bit oil to your palms and make nice balls of this batter and them gently press them between both the palms to form nice flattened balls or patty/tikki.

Dip these tikki in the bread crumbs nicely. These bread crumbs give a nice crunch to the tikki.



Now heat the tawa on medium heat for 5 mins. When the tawa is heated nicely, using tongs or spoon place the tikki on the tawa and let them roast properly both the sides. Apply little bit of oil with the brush or spatula on the patty while roasting. Roast them till they are nice golden brown in color. And Rajma tikki are ready.

Transfer these Rajma tikki  to the plate, and garnish them with coriander and have them will tomato ketchup.

These Rajma tikki are super yummy, crispy and nutritious, healthy and low calorie snack recipe as we have used very less oil, no potatoes.
