Bhel-Super yummy low cal, zero oil, nutritious & crunchy

Want to get back in shape? And so googling for some fat free, low cal recipes!  Tried some of them and landed into some really boring and tasteless recipes that you would just have it not more than once! If so, try this one and you will definitely love it, its supper yummy, low cal, zero oil, nutritious and crunchy – “Bhel” ! (Puffed rice with veggies and nuts with pinch of spices).


Bhel is actually a chaat recipe of puffed rice with tangy tamarind sauce, and spices. But here we are going to try new type of it which is tasty and also nutritious! We will be adding maximum veggies and nuts in it. We are not going to add fried puri, sev or boiled potato. We will be avoiding all the unhealthy stuff from the original recipe. A perfect evening snack to munch on! It does not require any cooking, just some efforts to chop and grate veggies. So, lets start..

1 and 1/2 cups puffed rice

1 large Onion finely chopped

1 large Tomato finely chopped

1 medium Carrot grated

1/2 cup sweet corn kernels

1/2 medium cucumber finely chopped or grated

3-4 almonds cut/crushed into small pieces

1/4th cup peanuts

few raisins

1 tsp salt

1 tsp red chilly powder

1 tsp chat masala powder (optional, you can also add corriander powder and cumin powder instead )

Preparation time 10 mins


How to prepare

Take a pan and roast almonds and peanuts till they turn light brown color. Cut/ crush the almonds into small pieces.

In a clean bowl, take puffed rice.

Add all the chopped and grated veggies – Onion, Tomato, Cucumber, carrot.

Add sweet corn kernels and roasted almonds and peanuts, also add few raisins.

Now add salt, red chilly powder, chat masala /coriander-cumin powder.

Now mix all the ingredients well. You can garnish it with finely chopped coriander.

And the super yummy crispy tasty and nutritious “Bhel” is ready!

It contains fresh veggies – Onion, Tomato, Carrot, Cucumber which has high fibre, helps in digestion. Plus contains loads of Vitamins and nutrients Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron, Vitamin B6, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium

And also contains nuts- Almonds,peanuts which are high in Omega 3 and 6 and proteins. 

Puffed rice contains carbs but the count is very low when compared to other millions of foods! 1 cup of Puffed rice contains 50 calories, which is very low! So, don’t worry try it out.
